Portrane and Rathgar shared a crazy 5-5 draw at the High School as both sides blew good leads and produced big comebacks before settling for the final score in one of the highlights of men’s Leinster Division One.
Chris Neville has recently returned following a strong GAA season with Round Tower, Lusk and he put the Fingal side in front when he deflection in Imran Khan’s corner assist.
Rathgar equalised from their first corner and duly added another couple of goals, building a 3-1 lead only for Brian MacMahon to get one back close to half-time.
Khan made it 3-3 in the second half and Portrane continued their momentum with Ossian Elmiger and Colin Neville building a 5-3 lead. But two more Rathgar corners saw them bounced back for a mad-cap draw.
Dublin University continued their upsurge in form as they made it three league wins in a row, moving off bottom into third in a matter of weeks with a 2-1 success over Clontarf.
Tarf had the best of the opening phases with Kevin Murray blasting the ball through a crowded circle for 1-0 while Tim Cullen went close from a corner.
Murray, though, was to depart the game early with a suspected dislocated shoulder which led to a lengthy delay. On the resumption,
Trinity found their groove with Patrick Temperley equalising when he latched onto Greg Arrowsmith’s attempted shot. Arrowsmith then won the day from a corner, sweeping home in the last five minutes.
The top two had comfortable wins with Corinthian winning 5-0 in Kilkenny with Ian Stewart adding another couple to his mass of goals this term. UCD fell behind in the first four minutes against Avoca at Belfield but scored the next seven en route to an 8-2 victory.
Dublin North versus Railway Union was postponed due to a bereavement.
In the Irish Senior Cup, meanwhile, Glenanne won their fixtures against Monkstown with plenty to spare as they were 3-0 up with half an hour to go courtesy of goals from Shannon Boucher, Sam O’Connor and Eddie O’Malley.
