Eve Reidy nabbed a stunning winner to see Loreto Foxrock through to the Leinster Schoolgirls Senior Premier league semi-final, earning a 2-1 win over Mount Anville, and a place in the final against Alexandra College.
It came just three minutes from the end as she brilliantly controlled a waist-high clearance before slotting the ball under the goalkeeper.
It completed a fine comeback from a half-time deficit after Rachel Moore had given Mount Anville the lead in the 20th minute. It came from their first penalty corner, slightly against the run of play, as Foxrock made the better start with Ellen Curran to the fore.
The Goatstown school, though, improved as the game went on with Suzanne Kelly a pivotal figure at the base of their defence. They were rocked, however, when Foxrock won a stroke for a back-stick tackle in the circle.
Hannah McLoughlin converted powerfully to get her side back on terms. Mount Anville responded well with Claudia Cotter tearing down the right flank on several occasions to great effect.
They won a quartet of corners but Jane Conway-Kenny kept them all out before Foxrock took their chance at the death. A last minute corner for Mount Anville slipped inches wide and Foxrock were through to the January 12 final.
Alexandra College, meanwhile, proved too strong for Loreto Beaufort with a 7-0 win in the second semi-final. Freya McDermott slammed home a hat trick while Habika O’Connor and Ava Beatty scored a couple, too.
One of them was a wonder goal, racing 60 metres past the defence before getting in behind the last defender. Her shot was pin-point, hitting the inside of the post before the ball lingered on the goal line before spinning into the blue zone.
