Loreto Foxrock and St Andrew’s have claimed the playoff places from Section B of the Senior Premier league thanks to their 2-2 score draw on Monday afternoon.
The result leaves Foxrock top of the group and in the hat for a semi-final place on 14 points with Andrew’s a point back on 13 and set to play the winner of Section C in a quarter-final. Andrew’s had trailed in the tie against Foxrock 2-0 before fighting back for the draw.
It means St Gerard’s and King’s Hospital – as third and fourth in this group – will play in the Claudia Tierney playoffs.
Elsewhere, it’s judgement week in the other groups. Section C remains very much up for grabs with Alexandra College guaranteed a playoff place.
Muckross and Mount Anville – tied in second place – will battle between them for the other one from the group when they meet later this week. Alex got into this position by edging a tie with Rathdown 2-1. Habika O’Connor got them off to a flyer with an early goal at the back post, created by Freya McDermott’s excellent approach work.
Rathdown levelled early in the second half to put the game right back into the mix but, with just a minute to go, Sophie Roopnarinesingh snatched the winner from close range.
In Section A, Loreto Beaufort are the best placed side with four wins from four while Wesley, High School and Killiney all have chances to advance.
Beaufort, most recently swept aside St Kilian’s 6-0 with Laura Nagle and Kate Fearon to the fore throughout, making light of the absence of Grace McLoughlin.
Wesley are the other unbeaten side in the section and have yet to concede in their three games and will top their group if they can beat Beaufort and Holy Child Killiney in their last two games. Lose and the door is opened up to High School or Holy Child.
It leads to a busy period with the final set for December 18 in Grange Road, meaning all group games need to be completed by this week with playoffs to follow the week after.
In the Junior Cup quarter-finals, meanwhile, Wesley beat Loreto Foxrock while Muckross saw off Mount Anville – the Minor double winners of last year. Loreto Dalkey eliminated St Andrew’s 2-1. The final for that competition will take place on December 15.
