Just three games survived the inclement weather in women’s Leinster division two this week with two ties falling foul of the frost on Saturday while the midweek tie between Old Alex II and Muckross also fell.It means the top of the table has a similar look to it with the top two both winning while Avoca closed the gap to the top three. They saw off UCD II 2-1 with Grainne Millar and young star Ellen Curran getting the goals.
Pembroke II retained their six point lead at the top of the division with a 3-1 win over Rathgar, a side that held them to a 0-0 draw earlier this term, with Lizzie de Araugo scoring here first of the season while Alice Ward and Ciara Howard are also on the mark.
Sophie Nolan and Jane Gilsenan both grabbed a brace in Muckross’s 4-1 win over Hermes II at St Andrew’s to remain the main contender to potentially close the gap on Pembroke.
With the Irish Hockey Trophy taking centre stage, only two league ties are on the agenda with Pembroke potentially extending their lead to nine points if they can get the better of UCD II. Railway’s impressive run of form, using a large number of teenagers, sees them host Loreto II at 10am at Park Avenue.
Eight LHA clubs are involved in the Trophy. Muckross face an evening tie against division three side Three Rock Ladies at Grange Road where they will need to tame Steph Baxter who has impressed since arriving in Dublin in the one all-Dublin derby.
Division four’s Monkstown have a big task as they travel to Munster division one side Cork C of I while div three leaders Our Lady’s host Munster “Challenge” outfit Belvedere.
