Women’s Leinster Division Two
With just 11 rounds of the second tier in Leinster complete, the league already looks done and dusted as Pembroke II completed a pair of wins to extend their lead to a mammoth 14 points at the top.
It came following their 4-1 win on Saturday against Old Alex II before running up another four goals on Sunday to see off Trinity II in their back match, setting them up nicely for their Irish Junior Cup date with Genesis II on Saturday.
In the first game, Elaine Thompson got the Serpentine Avenue side off to a flyer with a reverse-stick screamer in the eighth minute. She added her second of the day before Anna O’Neill calmly finished off the third before Eimear McCarthy rebounded her own shot at corner time to close out the win before Eimear O’Regan got one back late on.
That kept the side 11 points clear as UCD II returned to winning ways with a 2-0 success against Hermes II though they did not have it all their own way as Tiffany Ellis was required to save a penalty stroke.
In the race to be the top first team, the battle between Muckross and Genesis ended up 3-3, a result that keeps the latter just a point ahead with seven games to go.
Railway Union II made it seven points from their last three outings to lift them well clear of the bottom two, grabbing a 4-1 win over Trinity II while they can move into fourth should they win their game in hand.
Loreto II ended a run of four successive draws – and a first win since November 2 against Three Rock – as they beat their Grange Road neighbours 2-0 with two goals in the second half courtesy of Phoebe Lyons and Roisin Ryan.
On Sunday, Anna O’Neill scored twice in the first 12 minutes to put Pembroke II on the road to another win before Emma Kielthy’s penalty corner shot looped perfectly into the corner. Jane Brownlee’s corner deflection through her own legs and in to close out the 4-0 win over Trinity II.
