Little change in weather-beaten women’s div two

Women’s Leinster Division Two
Loreto II remain just ahead of Genesis in third place following their 1-1 tie at Beaufort last Saturday in less than ideal weather conditions. The young hosts played with an attacking intent from the start and played their part in a lively opening 20 minutes. After a string of offensive plays, they eventually broke through passing the ball across the top of the D to Sarah O’Loughlin who reversed home.

The second half, though, saw Genesis step up a gear, and despite missing regular strikers Catriona Lavelle and Aoife Orton, were unlucky not to score in the early phases of the half.

With Molly Cole off at half time and Aoife Henry coming off injured late in the second half, Julie Henry and Cliodhna Maloney slotted into the back line to keep the Loreto attacks to a minimum.

And their efforts were rewarded with numerous short corners and a ball stopped on the line by a Loreto foot earned a penalty stroke four minutes from time. Laura Barrie took the flick with great composure, slicing the keepers pads, leaving it 1-1 at full time.

Old Alex II and Muckross ended scoreless at Milltown to leave the latter in fifth place in the division while Alex are in ninth place after nine rounds of matches. Hermes II vs Railway Union II and Trinity II against Pembroke II both fell foul of the high winds and driving rain.
