Women’s Leinster Division Two round-up
Loreto II made the early running with a strong second half showing to record a 4-1 win over Old Alex II on the opening day of the season. Hazel Agar and Laura Pomphrett exchanged first half efforts but the Beaufort side were frustrated by an in-form Carolyn Crampton who made a series of saves to keep parity.
Loreto, though, turned the screw after the break with Sarah Scott putting them in front from the penalty spot, Sarah Mooney netting off a good corner move and Phoebe Lyons finished off the win in which Catherine Murray was instrumental throughout.
The three first teams in the division all recorded wins and clean sheets. Newly promoted Muckross scored a goal in each half to get the better of UCD II – the side they jostled with for the division three title a year ago. Sarah Cooney and Sophie Barnwel were their goalscorers.
Meabh Holden got Three Rock Ladies off to a winning start at Wesley College, scoring in the first half of their tie with Trinity II for a 1-0 win while Aoife Orton and Catriona Lavelle helped Genesis get the better of near neighbours Hermes II in Booterstown.
Pembroke II started their season, too, with a 2-0 success against Railway Union II in another derby date. Shona Doyle and Anna O’Grady combined for the latter to open the scoring and Eimear McNicholas netted the second on the stroke of half-time.
