The lowdown: Three Rock will be hoping to make amends after the 2012/13 season was one that got away from them, spurning golden chances in the Irish Senior Cup and the Mills Cup against their now-nemesis Monkstown. Twice, they came back from 3-1 down in key games to outdo the Grange Road side and those situations will probably act as motivation.
Nonetheless, last term was a huge improvement from Rovers from an eighth place finish the year before and they have a couple of big additions to their panel. Jonny Bruton is the big name, bringing with strength and conditioning know-how to the table, as well as his skills in midfield and up top where he could dovetail with Peter Blakeney and Mitch Darling.
Huub de With, meanwhile, is a rangy and composed Dutchman in Dublin, aiming to improve his English over the course of the season.
With Brendan Parsons stepping down for personal reasons, Paul Fitzpatrick joins the coaching team and preseason has seen some decent results. They ran up a comfortable win over Kilkeel before claiming the Super Cup on home turf with four wins out of five.
Luke Madeley looks set to be more available than last term, increasing the defensive options, while Johnny McCormack and Harry Morris are among a group of youngsters with potential to pin down first team spots. They start with a very testing opening trio of games while, unlike last season, will have split-focus with the IHL on the horizon.
First three games: Sept 14 – Corinthian (h); Sept 21 – Pembroke (a); Sept 28 – UCD (h)
