Ulster reclaim schoolgirl’s interpro double

Ulster once again dominated the girls interpros at Grange Road as they edged out Leinster at both U-18 and U-16 level.

The blues finished second in both tournaments but as Ulster claimed 1-0 results over the Grange Road hosting province on day two of the competition to go a long way to securing the title, something they copper-fastened with big wins over the South East.

The U-18 title was Ulster’s fifth in a row and came thanks to hard-fought 1-0 wins over Leinster and Munster, while they hit 11 goals in victories over Connacht and South East.

Leinster took second as they added to their two opening day wins with a slim success over Munster early on Sunday, Corinthian sharp-shooter Sarah Quill striking the only goal. But they could not overturn the northern province in their first outing of the day. It left the blues hoping for a favour from the South East but Ulster never looked troubled as they swept to a big 6-0 win.

The U-16 competition followed a similar script; Ulster edged Leinster 1-0 and snuck past Munster 2-1, Jessica McMaster scoring all the goals as the northerners took the title with four wins from four.

Again, it meant just a point against the South East would be enough for the title and the northern province duly struck seven times without response to make it double-delight.
