News in brief: Leinster logo competition

** The newly formed Leinster Branch – an amalgamation of the current men’s, ladies and South East Branches – will come into effect from June. They are running a competition for the design of the new logo for the new entity. This competition is open to people of all ages and carries a winning reward of €250.

The new logo will be in the Branch primary colours of Blue and Yellow and must incorporate the Harp which has been synonymous with Leinster Hockey for nearly 100 years.

The closing date for the competition is May 31, 2011. Send your design for the new logo which will be used on all matters relating to Leinster Hockey to William Hehir at whehir@st-andrews.ie

** Clontarf Hockey club are seeking a head coach for their ladies section for season 2011-12. Please contact ladies first team captain Amy Anslow for details on 087 7736249.

** YMCA’s junior section are running an Open Day on Sunday, May 8 in Alexandra College, Milltown with the aim of getting youngsters to try hockey and thereby attracting new players into underage hockey.

The event will run from 1pm to 4pm and admission is free. Players are asked to brings snacks, a drink, gum-shield, shin guards and a stick. The day will consist of coaching, tricks and skills from international and first team players, mini-tournamnents and a presentation of prizes.

** The Avoca Old Boys Golf Outing is being played on Tuesday, May 10 in Carrickmines Golf Club. The tee is reserved from 2pm to 3pm. There is dinner in the Clubhouse following the golf. If interested in playing, please phone Clive Felton on 085 7121230
