The Leinster schoolboy’s U-12 finals took place on Thursday in St Andrew’s College with Taney NS and Delgany NS taking the respective division one and two titles.
Taney scored a goal in each half to get the better of St Killians, a school who have been featuring strongly in the younger age group finals this season, to claim the Division One title 2-0.
The Division Two final was even closer, pitting Delgany against Kill-o-the-Grange NS. For Delgany, it was their third final in seven seasons while Kill were in their fourth successive final showdown.
The game started off at blistering pace with Delgany first to score from a ball thumped into the goal by the impressive Elliot Goode from the top of the circle.
Kill were level after five minutes; Greg Arrowsmith showing great determination to hit home at the second attempt after Nick McGuinness saved initially.
It was end to end stuff though neither goalie was fully stretched through to the end of normal and indeed extra-time, though McGuinness was called upon late in the day.
And so it led to penalty strokes. Delgany’s McGuinness saved the first one followed by a conversion by the industrious Harry Kirk and they held that after three rounds of strokes.
Liam Clarke produced a fine save to keep Kill in the mix but his counterpart McGuinness saved another effort leaving it to Goode to have a shot for the winner, Cool as you like, he netted high to give Delgany a hard fought win and break Kill hearts yet again from a great game played, in good spirit by all.
