Schoolboy finals begin at Belfield this week

Leinster Schoolboy’s hockey round-up:
The first series of Leinster Schoolboy cup finals will take place on Wednesday with the Senior Trophy seeing St Columba’s and Sutton Park battling it out for the title, now in its second year.

The junior final also takes place with the finals switching to Belfield from Grange Road for a triple bill. Kilkenny will face a confident Wesley College side who have already ousted St Andrew’s in the first round of the competition.

The cats made it into the decider just before the half-term break when they were in flying form against King’s Hospital in the semi-final.

Youth international Jeremy Duncan helped himself to four of the goals while David McClure made up the fifth in a 5-0 win. Despite their good attacking from, they were also forced to do their share of defending with outstanding goalkeeping from KCK keeper Muchyu Muurenzi keeping the sheet clean.

At U-13 level, St Andrew’s reached the final with a 5-0 success over KH last Friday and they will contest Wednesday’s decider as a result.

The Senior Cup begins in earnest on Friday with St Andrew’s travelling to St Columba’s for their semi-final at 5pm. Wesley play Sutton Park in the other semi, the Ballinteer school hoping to improve on their earlier 2-2 draw in the league.
