Naas move into top half as top two win comfortably

Naas’s memorable first season in women’s Leinster Division One continued on Saturday as they moved into fifth place in the league with their fifth win of the campaign in icy rain at The Maws.

Sarah Jennings got the only goal against North Kildare in the third quarter from a penalty corner strike.

The win lifted them above Avoca whose season of assorted different reasons for postponements added another refix to the list. They were leading their game with Genesis at St Raphaela’s through an Anna Richardson goal before conditions became too difficult to continue.

The Naas first team are enjoying a productive first season in Division One

The top two, meanwhile, had handy enough wins with Corinthian bouncing back from their first dropped points of the season with a 9-0 away win over Clontarf with Nicola Torrans and Lauren McGrane scoring twice each.

Monkstown remain on their case thanks to goals from Sadhbh Hoban Logan, Rachel Moore, Amber Barnwell, Sophie Moore and Aine Naughton in a 5-0 win over Rathgar.

With two games left, Town are two points off the leaders Corinthian who have a game extra to play.

Two refixes are on the list for midweek with Trinity going to Clontarf on Wednesday and Avoca hosting Glenanne on Thursday, games that will have an impact on the race to be third and a possible EYHL2 place.
