Newbridge College complete girls Senior Cup second round line-up

Newbridge College completed the Leinster Schoolgirls Senior Cup second round line-up on Friday afternoon as they got the better of St Kilian’s DSD 2-0.

Goals from Ellie Henry and Laura Carroll made the difference, earning them a home second round date with Holy Child, Killiney – both sides are currently unbeaten in the Premier League. HCK were too strong for Sion Hill, Aine Naughton leading the scoring with a hat-trick in a 9-1 success.

Santa Sabina won an epic north county contest against Loreto Balbriggan in a shoot-out after an entertaining 2-2 draw in normal time. After a lively first half, the Sutton side eventually found the gaps in the Balbriggan defence, Alison Cox’s straight strike from a corner and an open play effort from Cate Phelan made it 2-0.

With Emma Jane Downey and Roisin Hoey to the fore, Balbriggan replied quickly with Megan Carroll – assisted by Niamh Richardson – getting them back into the game and, in the last season, they equalized via Erika Mitchell’s reverse.

But Santa Sabina gathered themselves and eventually won the shoot-out in sudden death 6-5 with Eve McCormack making the difference.

St Gerard’s were another side to go through in a shoot-out as Ella Malone, Abi O’Connor and Jenny Mooney earned them a 3-2 win over Loreto St Stephen’s Green after regulation time ended 0-0.

Reigning champions St Andrew’s went through 2-1 in their shoot-out after a 2-2 normal time tie against Wesley.

Loreto Dalkey beat Temple Carrig 2-0 in a hard fought, physical encounter. Both sides played a good counter-attacking style with Dalkey breaking the deadlock in the final quarte via Georgie McCarthy bursting forward from right back.

Temple Carrig went all out attack from there, putting immense pressure on the Dalkey defence but they managed to clear their lines to Aoife McCormack who secured her team’s win with a tidy finish.

The other sides were reasonably one-sided. St Columba’s won 3-0 against Mount Sackville courtesy of Arizona Forde, Sophia Cole and Tatiana Hopkins.

Emily Kealy netted twice in Loreto Beaufort’s 4-0 win against current Premier League section A table-toppers Mount Anville. Muckross Park scored a goal in each quarter before nicking a fifth right at the end of their game with Teresians in the Donnybrook derby.

Loreto Foxrock saw off St Raphaela’s; Alexandra College beat St Conleth’s while Newpark won against Our Lady’s Terenure.

They all joined Rathdown, Mount Temple, High School and King’s Hospital in the second round with the draw made on Thursday.
