Trinity and Queen’s copper-fasten EYHL2 semi-final spots

Women’s EYHL Division 2 round-up
Trinity and Queen’s confirmed their place in the final four of the competition with wins over UCC and Corinthian, respectively.

For Trinity, they ran up a 3-0 success in Cork to make it three wins in a week in the competition, backing up their midweek 2-1 win over Corinthian. They went 1-0 up in the first half via Erica Markey’s effort that just about cleared the goal line.

Hannah Humphries saved a penalty stroke soon after to keep the game tight going into the second half as UCC won a series of corners but could not convert. But two lates goals from Ailish Long spun out a slightly flattering final score.

For Queen’s, two first half goals from Jessica McMaster put them two up against Corinthian who fought back well with Nicola Torrans getting one back. But they could not turn things around further and the loss ends their chances of reaching the playoffs.

In Pool 2, Catholic Institute and Monkstown’s hotly anticipated battle in Limerick fell foul of the rain with the pitch at Rosbrien water-logging. Both are already safely through to the final four with the tie solely to decide who tops the group.

Lurgan produced a strong performance to beat Dungannon 5-2. Jo-Anne Reid and Ella Greenaway swapped first quarter goals before Lauren Wright got Lurgan in front at half-time.

Olivia Gibson’s reverse made it 3-1 and she repeated the trick for the fourth goal. Wilson’s second extended the lead to 5-1 before Karen Elliott got a late consolation strike.
