UCD and Railway through to Potter Cup final four

The Jacqui Potter Cup semi-final line-up is taking shape with Railway Union and UCD going through in midweek while the remaining ties take place on Saturday.

Railway kept up their hopes of another Jacqui Potter Cup title as the reigning champions saw off Pembroke’s first team on Thursday evening courtesy of a Kate Lloyd goal.

UCD made it through via a shoot-out as Suzie Kelly held her nerve in the final round to see them through 3-2 after normal time had ended 1-1.

Hannah McLoughlin – one of several players back following Irish under-21 duty in Alicante – gave the students the lead from their second corner of the tie.

Muckross equalised, though, via a slick set-piece move which was sent crashing into the backboard by Lisa Mulcahy in the 26th minute.

A well-matched second half saw both Clodagh Cassin and Rachel Barnett called into action with plenty of later drama but a shoot-out was the outcome.

UCD edged in front a couple of times only to be pegged back at 2-2, with Kelly set to take the last one which she scored from for the victory.

The remaining two quarter-finals will be played on Saturday. Loreto are another side with returnees from the U-21s with Mia Jennings, Christina Hamill, Siofra O’Brien and Caitlin Sherin possibly back for their game with Glenanne.

Pembroke get a second chance to make it through to the semi-finals when their second string host Old Alex at Serpentine Avenue. They have eliminated a pair of Leinster Division One sides to date but whether they can take down an EYHL side is another level of challenge.

In Leinster Division One, Trinity returned to the top of the table on Thursday evening with a 3-0 win over Genesis, Sally Campbell scoring twice.
