Shaw names first panel since World Cup silver medal heroics

The Green Army will travel to Valencia next weekend for a five-day training camp with an extended panel of 28 where they will play three uncapped matches against Spain.

The panel includes 14 of the 19 players used in the run to World Cup silver. Not involved this time for a variety of reasons are Lizzie Colvin, Nicci Daly, Ayeisha McFerran, Grace O’Flanagan and Shirley McCay.

On the flip side, twins Bethany and Serena Barr, Sarah Hawkshaw and St Andrew’s schoolgirl Amy Elliott the complete newcomers.

Head coach Graham Shaw commented “We are looking forward to a training camp in Spain with our extended panel and to begin building towards an exciting 2019.

“This will prove an invaluable five days as we welcome back members of the World Cup squad playing abroad and certain players who have made the step up from the junior age group teams.

“This camp acts as the ideal conclusion to the 2018 international fixture calendar and allows us to hit the ground running in January with qualification for the Olympic Games the main objective.”
