Trinity bounce back in emphatic fashion in Leinster

Women’s Leinster Division One round-up
Trinity started off their campaign with an emphatic 6-0 success – built on five second half goals – over Genesis at St Raphaela’s, bouncing back quickly form their 2-1 defeat on the opening day of EYHL2.

Trinity started the game at a lightning pace winning a quartet of short corners, the last of which saw Sally Campbell’s flick stopped but Genesis failed to clear and Ruby Keating was on hand to tap the ball into the net, 1-0 at the break

Five minutes into the second half, they got their second goal with Campbell finishing neatly from a short corner. Ailish Long found herself clear to nonchalantly score the third before Keating nabbed her second.

The fifth goal was the pick of the bunch, a pitch-length move that ended with Campbell’s pin-point pass locating Issy Delamer who deftly directed the ball into the back of the Genesis net. Long completed the rout from a penalty corner.

Monkstown, meanwhile, enjoyed a perfect weekend with two wins and two clean sheets, adding a 4-0 win over North Kildare to their Saturday 1-0 win over Lurgan.

After an end-to-end first 20 minutes, Town soon took over with Aine Naughton winning a corner that skipper Sadhbh Hoban Logan scored at the back post. Chloe Watkins made it two from another set piece, reversing from the top of the circle into right corner.

Hoban Logan got her second when Amber Barnwell’s shot was saved her way and Watkins got her third of the weekend from another backhand shot with 20 minutes to go.

Avoca got off to a confident start with a 3-0 win over Our Lady’s, Aideen McGuinness, Molly Cole and Moirin O’Neill on the mark.

Corinthian backed up their EYHL2 win over Trinity with a 2-0 success against newly promoted Naas, Jessica and Lauren McGrane scoring the goals.

Glenanne proved too strong over Rathgar, Audrey McCormack scoring on her comeback following pregnancy with Kate O’Connor and Hannah Delaney helping them a 3-0 success.
