Dublin North got off the mark in men’s Leinster Division One as they fought back in the Fingal derby to beat Portrane 4-2 in Donabate.
Early on, the hosts were thwarted by some superb goalkeeping from the visitors Tom Fee who had an inspired game throughout.
However, Imran Khan got the goal Portrane had been threatening in the first half but the joy was short lived as player-coach Shane Dempsey was able to equalise.
Portrane responded very well and again took the game to the visitors and restored their lead with a goal from youngster Rory Govan. Yet again, North hit the front once more when Paddy Gahan’s shot found its way to the backboard for 2-2 at half-time.
And the Abbotstown club hit the front for the first time in the second following a smart finish from Ronan Gannon. With Portrane throwing bodies forward, it was Alex McKeever who popped up to make it 4-2 and joy to Dublin North.
It was one of two games to be played in the division last Saturday with Clontarf getting their first win of the campaign, beating Kilkenny 5-2. It ended the cats perfect start to the season.
On Tuesday evening, UCD moved top on their own with their third high scoring win of the campaign, beating student rivals Dublin University 4-0 in Santry. They already have a goal difference of plus 18
