Five teams booked their tickets to the All-Ireland Schoolboy Championships on Wednesday afternoon as two Leinster outfits and three Munster schools won out.
Kilkenny were dominant in their three-team group, running up two 4-0 wins, seeing off St Columba’s and Sutton Park with something to spare.

Against Columba’s, Henry Huston scored twice, adding to efforts from Max Neill and Tim Cope. Columba’s bounced back with a Georg Mueller-Methling goal earning a 1-0 win over Sutton, meaning Kilkenny were in the driving seat going into their final match and they duly went through with Niall Boland and Evin McClure among those to score.
St Andrew’s, meanwhile, won their four-team competition, avoiding any potential banana-skins to make sure they can defend their title. They were involved in the qualifiers for the first time in nearly 20 years after their losses to High School and Newpark in last year’s league playoffs.
They ran up a 3-0 win over King’s Hospital with Ryan Spencer scoring two and Ben Hickmott getting the other.
Mount Temple won through to meet them with a 1-0 win over Sandford Park with Ben Lacey on the mark. Temple were on top in the first half before Sandford replied with a string of corners in the second half but could not breakthrough.
For Andrew’s, they bossed the final 5-0 with Spencer getting his third goal of the day in the process. The Booterstown school will go through to the main event in October where they join Kilkenny as well as pre-qualified Newpark, Wesley and High School.
In Munster, Newtown, Villiers and Ashton took the three spots from their regional qualifiers. The Waterford school topped their group with a 5-0 win over Bandon, 1-1 draw with Ashton, 3-0 against Limerick’s Villiers and a closing 2-2 draw with Midleton.
