Gerard Hodkinson’s extra time goal saw Limerick’s Villiers School retain the Munster Senior Cup title, edging out Waterford’s Newtown School in a cracker at Garryduff.

The winning Villiers team

Jannis von Maydell gave Villiers the early lead in the seventh minute when he flicked in from a penalty corner. A Ben Johnson rocket powered Newtown back into the tie, his drag-flick picking out the top corner in the 13th minute for the last of the goals in normal time.

It remained locked at 1-1 all the way through the second half with Newtown keeper Kassim Alam Balloch making a couple of important saves while Sam Johnson and Ethan McInerney were solid in the centre backs.

It led to extra time where Villiers grabbed their winner four minutes into the additional period when Chris Ryan found an outstanding first time pass to Hodkinson who buried the ball into the bottom right corner.

It secured the title for a second successive season, turning things around after a series of final defeats in the preceding years.
