For UCD, they beat their student rivals Dublin University 2-0 with Iain Styles netting before half-time before Andrew Meates made the game safe midway through the second.

The result leaves them one point off leaders Corinthian who ran up a 3-0 home win over Clontarf at Whitechurch Park with Ian Stewart scoring his 11th goal of the season while Stephen Reid and Jonny Bruton were also on the mark.

The match of the weekend came on Sunday when Kilkenny came within a few minutes of a shock win over YMCA but eventually had to settle for a 4-4 draw at Wesley College.

After an initial exchange of goals, the cats went on to build a 4-2 lead with Ben Johnson scoring twice while Ben Wallace and Billy McEnery putting them clear with five minutes to go.

YM, though, are free-scoring with Ben Campbell and Grant Glutz tearing things up. They summoned two late goals to earn a point that may prove important. It meant they ended the weekend with four goals following a comprehensive win over Weston on Saturday, Campbell ending with six goals for his work.

They sit in third, two points off Corinthian but with an extra game played. Avoca are in fourth place, sixth points off the playoff places, thanks to their four points from two games.

They backed up a scoreless tie against Dublin North with a 2-0 success over Weston on Tuesday night with Ruairi Nolan and Adam Pritchard scoring.

Elsewhere, Three Rock Rovers set up a home semi-final date against Dublin University in the Neville Cup following a Tuesday evening shoot-out win against Glenanne.

Both sides fielded much-changed squads from their usual EYHL line-ups; half-time and subsequently full-time finished 1-1 before Rovers prevailed 5-3 in the shoot-out. In the bottom half of the draw, UCD await the winners of Kilkenny and Pembroke.
