Dublin University’s Robbie O’Hanlon became a viral star as his glorious glancing touch to a knee-high Cillian Hynes picked out the top corner at Santry Avenue.
At time of writing, the goal has passed 50,000 view with the likes of the Euro Hockey League and Inside Hockey picking up on the clip that came in a 7-1 win over Dublin North.
It continued Trinity’s rise into the top half of the table with three wins in succession after a slow start to the campaign that yielded one point from three games.
O’Hanlon had earlier snapped up a corner rebound before a Hynes reverse made it 2-0. The third was a near carbon copy, Patrick Temperley doing the hard work to turn over the ball before cleverly setting David Cardy away.
He showed a clean pair of heels to drive from the halfway line into the D and fired a powerful reverse in to the bottom corner from an identical position to Hynes minutes before.
Hynes added a lovely team goal – via a David Robinson stepover – for his eighth goal of the season. Cardy made it five at half-time.
Dublin North got one back in the second half but a Rory Nichols corner and O’Hanlon’s wonder goal completed the win and a little piece immortality for the former Suttonians man.
Kilkenny got off the mark as they raided the bullring to beat Clontarf 2-0 to get off the mark and off the base of the competition.
In a tight, tough game on a slippy pitch, Billy McEnery broke the deadlock with an upright reverse following a break-out counter attack. The second goal was a corner tap-in courtesy of Ben Wallace.
Clontarf had a few chances as well but the game was ten versus nine for a period in the second half which hampered their chances of gaining momentum. They pushed high up to get chances but Kilkenny held on for the win.
Corinthian maintain their place at the top thanks to a 2-1 win over Rathgar, Ian Stewart scoring both the goals at Whitechurch Park.
UCD are second as Andrew Tutty scored a hat-trick in a comfortable 8-2 win over Weston while YMCA scored a 3-0 win over Avoca, Grant Glutz scoring his 11th goal of the campaign.
