Five sides on six points in men’s Leinster Division One

Five teams sit on six points in men’s Leinster Division One with initial favourites Corinthian and YMCA the two sides with perfect records still intact at this early stage.

Against Kilkenny, David Howard scored in both the first and last minute to cap a 6-3 win for the reds. He started the scoring to put Corinthian 1-0 ahead but they soon found themselves 2-1 behind as Ben Johnson got on the end of a counter-attack and Billy McEnery deflected in a crash ball.

Tom Gibbs equalized for Corinthian’s with the goal of the game. It was a well-worked move ending with Gibbs smashing a reverse into the top corner. But Kilkenny went into half time 3-2 up, after they attacked down the right-hand side, driving along the end line and pulling it back for a Ben Wallace tap in.

Howard tied it up at 3-3 from a well-worked corner. The big turning point in the game came when Kilkenny had a corner saved onto the post, and failed to score the rebound which looked impossible to miss.

From the resulting hit out, Corinthian’s took it quick and scored a very well worked counter attack. Tom Gibbs played a nice one two with Jack Perdue before sweeping home his second of the game making it 4-3 to Corinthian. Two more drag flicks from Ian Stewart and David Howard sealed the game.

YM’s victory was a bit simpler as they won 8-2 against Dublin University with Ben Campbell scoring a hat trick and Grant Glutz making it five goals in two games.

Avoca got their second win in a week with Ruairi Nolan scoring the only goal of the game in the first half, beating UCD 1-0. For UCD, Andrew Ramsay is set to be out for the season following recent surgery on his right elbow.

Dublin North were another side to make it two wins in seven days with Declan Brady and Paddy Gahan doing the damage in a 2-1 just around the western quarter of the M50.

Clontarf earned four points from their weekend with Alan O’Malley scoring twice in a Saturday win at Rathgar. On Sunday, Tim Cullen put Tarf 1-0 up from a corner on the stroke of half-time but Cillian Hynes levelled with 10 minutes to go for Trinity
