Lisnagarvey – men’s EY Hockey League preview

Last season: 3rd EY Hockey League; Irish Senior Cup second round; EY Champions Trophy semi-final
Coach: Errol Lutton

Players in: James Corry (Instonians)
Players out: Michael Robson (Crefelder HC)

Overview: The 2016 national champions go into the season as one of the main contenders for the title once again with a wealth of top class talent. The year to date has been a coming of age one for Sean Murray, Matthew Nelson and Neal Glassey – whose mooted move to Germany did not go through in the end – who played in three major international tournaments.

With Jonny Bell and Paul Gleghorne at the back, they have strength in each line though they will miss the incredible service of Timmy Cockram in the forwards and at corners. Michael Robson has moved to Germany after half a season with the club but James Corry – from Instonians – is a very decent arrival.

With Under-21 internationals Ryan Getty, James Milliken, Andrew McKibbin and Daniel Nelson a year further along in their progression and a well-heeled coach in situ, they should be there or there-abouts when the medals are handed out at the end of the season.

Their key showdowns will obviously be against the sides in the top four, earning just four points from 18 against Three Rock, Banbridge and Monkstown, if they are to land top spot.
