Munster’s leading lights start the season with two injury concerns in the form of Phil Smith (knee) and, more long-term, David Harvey (neck and hamstring). Despite the number of players having left and unavailable through injury, the club are still aiming for a top-four finish but mid-table could be a more realistic goal with a good run to the later rounds in the Irish Senior Cup.

The club had five players involved in the Irish Under-21 set up over the summer – Peter Coulter, Phil Brownlow, Alex Burns, Julian Dale and Simon Wolfe – and are hoping they will be sharp coming into the new campaign that starts on Sunday against Glenanne.

Last season, some of their swings in fortune centred around John Jermyn’s availability in between injury, providing 16 goals with his vicious corner and his ability to pick passes.
