Denham and McNeill finalise Irish U-16 squads

Irish Under-16 coaches Niall Denham and Alison McNeill have finalised their respective squads for their upcoming six national tournaments later in July.

For the boys, Denham has a panel of 21 that will contest a three-game series against Scotland next weekend at Queen’s before it reduces down to 18 for the Six Nations in Nottingham where they play Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and England. High School’s Harry Lynch is the one returnee to the side from last year’s vintage.

On the girls’ side, McNeill’s charges go to Glasgow next weekend to meet Scotland three times before going on to Spain for their main event from July 14.

She said of the panel: “Selection has been very challenging due to the competitiveness within the squad. We would like to thank everyone on the panel for their hard work and commitment to the programme over the past few months.

“The Europeans will be extremely tough but we look forward to continue our development against the top five teams in Europe.”

Goalkeeper Ellie McLoughlin is in for a second year with the side as is midfielder St Columba’s Sophia Cole.
