Glenanne corners the difference against Avoca.

Women’s Leinster Division One – week two round-up
Glenanne’s set-piece machine saw them make a significant statement as they saw off Avoca 4-0 in a repeat of last season’s Jacqui Potter Shield final and did it in spectacular style with a double on either side of half-time.

Glens started the slower with most of the possession going in favour of the visitors in the opening 10 minutes. They eventually settled into the game and were showing good link up between the defence and midfield to cause problems for Avoca.

They eventually broke the deadlock with a Saoirse O’Donoghue drag beating the Avoca keeper and settling the home side fully. The first half finished with a Rachel O’Brien touch on the line to finish off a well worked corner and double the glens lead going into half time!

The second half started much the same with glens maintaining most of the possession and their forward line causing Avoca’s defence a lot of hassle. It was Glenanne’s corner routine again that solidified their lead when Marie Goulding deflected past Avoca’s defence.

The final nail in the coffin again came from O’Donoghue when her pin point accuracy slotted home her second drag of the day and highlighted Glenanne’s intentions for the season ahead.

Old Alex joined Muckross at the top of the table with a 5-3 win at Our Lady’s with new addition Isy Delamar scoring twice in addition to goals from Fiona Bradish, Katherine Egan and Sylvia O’Mahoney. Our Lady’s had taken the lead via Paula Dennehy from a direct strike from the top of the circle in the 15th minute.

Alex drew level from the breakdown of a corner. Five minutes into the second half, it was 3-1 with Sinead Kelly and Aoife Kelly linked up well, both scoring, but Alex went on to get another three goals to snatch victory from the match.

Ali Farrell’s saw Genesis nick victory against North Kildare to add to their unbeaten start to the season with a single goal win. Corinthian and Trinity are also unbeaten following their scoreless draw.
