Overview: With two of last season’s key players departing, Glenanne had a big job of replacing Shannon Boucher – the top scorer last year on the national stage with 27 goals – and goalkeeper Lukasz Domachowski.

But there are few better men to come back into the fold than Shane O’Donoghue who will run the midfield while his corners could see him replace Boucher at the head of the charts after two highly productive seasons in Belgium. Former YMCA and UCD man Leo Micklem will don the pads.

Joe Brennan has stepped down as head coach to concentrate on work commitments and his involvement with the coaching team for the Irish ladies senior squad. Rory O’Donoghue will take over the reins with Frankie Byrne as his assistant.

Richard Couse is a quality addition from Avoca while Adam Clayton comes a short distance around the M50 from Weston. There are a number further signings in the pipeline but not yet confirmed. Stephen Brownlow, meanwhile, will be more available for training as he is back full-time in Ireland, working in the UCD physio office. Neil Byrne will miss the first weekend of the season through injury sustained in the lead-up to the Under-21 interpros.

As for targets for the season, Frank Byrne says: “After finishing in fifth position in the inaugural season of the EYHL, Glenanne are hoping to go one better and make the playoffs with the ultimate aim a return to European competition.”
