Ballsbridge énergie has come on board as a series sponsor for the Irish men’s upcoming four games against Korea in Dublin next week as part of their Olympic preparations.
The fitness club is one of the first companies to publicly back the Irish team as part of their fundraising drive toward Rio in August.
World number nine side Korea are currently in their preparation phase for the Champions Trophy which take place in London this summer and offer a high quality opponent – albeit not one bound for the Games – to test the Irish wares.
The series at the Merrion Fleet Arena opens on Tuesday, May 31 with further games on June 2, 4 and 5.
It is the latest boost in the fundraising drive which has already brought in over €125,000 via the Pledge Sports donation platform as well as via a gala dinner on Thursday, May 26 and a golf fundraiser in Carton House on May 27.
The total investment to be prepared like the best is €607,461 with the funding attained from the Irish Sports Council and Sport NI coming in €224,862 shy of that mark.
Speaking about the fundraising drive, Hockey Ireland acting chief executive Rob Johnson said: “We really appreciate your support to date. We are nearly there, the first team to represent Ireland at an Olympics in over 68 years, and it is our own sport – hockey!
“Continue showing your support for them, by ensuring that everyone that you know is made aware how they can contribute to making history.”
