YMCA and Wesley join forces to fund new pitch

YMCA have agreed a deal with Wesley College to work together to refurbish the school’s number one pitch at the Ballinteer venue, targeted for the 2017/18 season.

The deal sees the club and school work together to seek sports capital funding with YMCA providing the balance of the estimated €270,000 cost.

As part of this application, both parties will enter into a 15-year licence agreement which will commence on funding being secured. The parties are targeting to have the No 1 pitch refurbished for 2017/2018 season, subject to funding being secured.

YMCA Hockey Club President Peter Chadwick set out the club’s plans to its members at an information meeting and EGM on Tuesday, February 10.

He said: “The membership unanimously approved this very exciting development for the club and look forward to seeing it coming to fruition.”

Fine Gael Councillor Josepha Madigan was present at the club’s launch of the agreement on Sunday prior to their Mills Cup tie against Corinthian, and added: “This is a very important development for the sporting infrastructure in Dublin Rathdown. Hockey is very popular in the area and this will allow many more girls and boys from the community play Hockey.

“I will be fully supporting the YMCA Hockey Club and Wesley College’s application for a sports capital grant.”
