KH minors win B league title

King’s Hospital claimed their first boys hockey title in many years yesterday when they claimed the Minor B league title, seeing off Newpark 3-1 in the final.

They took the lead early on when Matthew Sweetnam struck from the top of circle, giving the Palmerstown school a brilliant start to the tie.

Their Blackrock counterparts, however equalised on the stroke of half-time when Leon Gallagher weighed in, making it 1-1 at the break.

A determined KH side dominated the opening period of second half and it was no surprise when Brooklyn Mapfumo restored their lead on 40 minutes.

First year student Rory Govan made the game safe with a third five minutes from time, sparking wild celebrations for last year’s beaten Under-13 cup finalists.

In the A final, Wesley were 3-1 winners against High School with Jamie Metchette scoring twice and Jack Keating getting the other goal for the Ballinteer outfit.
