Kirk Shimmins will be looking to carry his form from the European Championships into the New Zealand Hockey League as he renews his link with the Southern Dogs.
The UCD man played in the competition a year ago and links up with the side, coached by Dave Ross in Wangerei on the North Island where they will play their third fixture against the Ricoh Capital Cobras at LJ Hooker Turf.
The Doggies also feature Blacksticks’ internationals Hugo Inglis and Blair Tarrant back in their team for this years competition having missed last term while in Rotterdam. Kane Russell is another in the side that features five of the 2014 team.
Shimmins missed the opening two games of the competition which were run off over the last two weekends with the Doggies recording a draw and a narrow 2-1 loss.
The next five games in the round-robin phase of the eight team competition get under way on Saturday against the Cobras. Perhaps the toughest tie on the agenda looks to be their final tie against Auckland who feature Simon and Marcus Child together with Ryan Archibald and the three Panchea brothers.
A top four place will earn a semi-final playoff place on September 19 ahead of the final which is on a day later on September 20.
