Loreto have announced the appointment of Paul Fitzpatrick as Head Coach for their first team for the forthcoming season.
Fitzpatrick, formerly part of the heavily-decorated Glenanne side, was the assistant coach of Three Rock Rovers last season and is no stranger to the Beaufort club having acted as the skills coach to the first and second teams last season.In his playing days, Fitzpatrick enjoyed a wave of success as a player with the Glens and UCD, winning six Leinster titles, four Irish Senior Cups – three as a player, one as assistant coach with TRR – six Mills Cups, nine Neville Cups, one Irish Club Championship as well as a EuroHockey Club Champions Trophy gold and silver medal.
He takes over following a successful two seasons with Three Rock Rovers winning the Irish Senior Cup and Mills Cup. Fitzpatrick was captaining the very successful Over-40s Masters in the recent European Championships in the UK.
His former team-mate Ian Clarke will be at the helm for the second team. Clarke joins from a successful year coaching Three Rock Men’s 2nd XI, leading them to the Irish Junior Cup final.
He has previously coached Pembroke’s ladies firsts and is currently working with the Leinster U-16 girls, winning three Interpro titles in the four years he has been involved.
Meanwhile, Loreto have also announced Niall Denham has taken up the role of Director of Coaching for the Junior Section. This newly created role will focus on improving coaching standards throughout the Junior Section, leading to higher and better player development. Denham will be responsible for all aspects of the coaching programmes within the Junior Section.
Club President Deirdre Naughton is confident about the coaching appointments for the forthcoming season and the return of their First Team to the Irish Hockey League.
