Chloe Brown’s strike from the game’s first attack set the tone, handing Ireland a 1-0 lead within four minutes. Yvonne O’Byrne subsequently got a touch to a Shirley McCay sweep from a penalty corner to double the difference at half-time before Emily Beatty added the third from close range.

It added to an earlier 7-1 win over France and a 3-0 success against Ukraine to continue the serene progress through to the semi-finals where Graham Shaw’s team will meet Belarus on Thursday at 2.30pm Irish time.

Victory in that tie will see Ireland promoted back to the top tier of European hockey and they will have confidence of doing that having beaten the Belarussians last February 7-0 in the World League Round 2 semi-final.

Coach Graham Shaw said of the performance: “I thought we controlled the game very well from start to finish, creating some very good goal scoring opportunities. The girls stayed patient throughout, moved the ball well and scored three good goals.”
