Russell wins Syracuse Athlete of the Year

Former Holy Child Killiney player Emma Russell was honoured for a superb season by her college, Syracuse University, with the top female sporting honour – the Female Athlete of the Year – across all 11 sports they compete in.

She led the college to its first-ever NCAA Tournament final with the Enniskerry native leading the scoring charts, notably netting an ACC Tournament record of six goals in the playoff tournament, including four in a single game.

Russell was subsequently named in the first team All-ACC conference team with 21 goals and four assists from her season, putting her sixth on the all-time list for the university for a single season. In a memorable year for her team, her coach Ange Bradley was named women’s Coach of the Year.
