Women’s Division One
Hermes returned to the top of women’s Leinster division one on a wild night in Kilcock as they got the better of North Kildare with a second half burst.
The Maws has proven a tough venue for the top sides this season with UCD drawing and Railway, Pembroke and Loreto winning by a single goal. And Hermes did not have things their own way as Neassa O’Malley and Lauren Thomas traded first half goals.
The former deflected into the net from a free on the 25 to take the lead 15 minutes in before Kilkenny schoolgirl Thomas levelled after good work from Eimear Horan and Caitriona McGilp.
Sinead Loughran, though, struck twice after the break while McGilp also chipped in on her reverse as they ran out 4-1 winners in the second half. It gives them a two-point buffer going into their final match of the season against Loreto while also confirmed they will be one of the sides to play in the inaugural, expanded IHL.
Glenanne and Railway Union’s tie was abandoned after five minutes in St Mark’s as poor visibility in the driving rain made it impossible to proceed.
