The Tommy O’Sullivan Under-14 Leinster indoor tournament reaches a climax this Sunday in Donabate Leisure Centre, the culmination of four excellent weekends of action, organised by Portrane Hockey Club.
Reigning champions Three Rock were strong qualifiers from the group phase but will face strong opposition from YMCA who won the competition two years ago.
Railway Union and Avoca will be hoping to get their name on the trophy for the first time having broken through this year and, on their day, can beat any side. It looks to be a superbly presented event with half-time music helping to add to the atmosphere.
Last weekend, Portrane’s Under-14 boys won the shield final of the Tommy O’ Sullivan indoor tournament. It was a fantastic afternoon of competitive hockey; the four competing teams were Portrane, Clontarf, Wicklow and North Kildare.
Portrane won their first two matches, seeing off Wicklow 4-1 and North Kildare 2-0. Clontarf also won their first two matches, beating both Wicklow and North Kildare 2-0.
This set up a final between Portrane and Clontarf. A very exciting match ended 1-1 but Portrane, with captain Riley Shoebridge playing a leading role, were declared the winners on goal difference from the four team group.
