Flying Flynn nabs famous win for Muckross II

Aoife Flynn struck the odd goal in five to hand Muckross II an excellent women’s Irish Junior Cup 3-2 win over Pegasus, currently third in Ulster’s Junior One division.

Ciara O’Connor had them level at half-time and then again at 2-2 before Flynn grabbed the winner and put the division three side through to the quarter-finals.

They go on to face Pembroke, finalists in 2014, after they swept past Ashton 5-0 in round two at Serpentine Avenue.

Loreto II had a tough battle against Trinity II in Santry against a side currently lying toward the bottom of the division below them.

They had quite a few chances to win the game but left it until a corner with eight minutes to go when a straight strike rebounded out to Sarah Jane Kelly who slotted the ball home. Trinity had a couple of corners themselves but could not break through to cause an upset.

They will play Railway Union who were saved a trip up the M1 to Armagh as the home side withdrew from the competition in midweek.

There is an all-Munster tie in the offing after Bandon got the better of Old Alex in west Cork while Cork C of I prevailed on penalties against city rivals Harlequins.

The fourth tie in the quarters will be an all-Ulster affair. Portadown and Queen’s tie has still to be played after the snow covered Edenvilla last Friday night. The winner of that game will play Lisnagarvey, winners over Randalstown.

In Leinster’s division two, Avoca strengthened thei position in the top four with a 2-0 win over Genesis, Cara Kelehan and Rachel Boyce getting the goals.

UCD II were comfortable winners over Hermes II, moving them into a share of fifth place thanks to a 5-0 win with Jane O’Brien and Rebecca Evans both scoring twice.
