Women’s Leinster Division One
Hermes 2 (Aisling Naughton, Sinead Loughran) UCD 2 (Anna O’Flanagan, Deirdre Duke)
For the second time in six weeks, Hermes came from two goals down to snatch a draw against UCD as Sinead Loughran’s late goal gave the Booterstown club what could be a very useful point.
Having played Railway Union, UCD and Pembroke twice, it means that all the title contenders bar Loreto will be hoping for favours from elsewhere if they are to catch up on Hermes.
Deirdre Duke gave UCD an early lead before Anna O’Flanagan doubled up at half-time with a deflected penalty corner effort, going in off Christine Quinlan’s after the shot initially looked to be heading wide. Aisling Naughton, though, kept pace with O’Flanagan in the season’s scoring stakes with her 17th of the season from close range from a corner.
Loughran then tied things up with a diving deflection following Aine Connery’s cross to nab what could be a precious point. It moves them three points clear of Railway while UCD, Pembroke and Loreto – the latter two meet next week – are six points off the pace albeit with a game in hand.
