Women’s Leinster Division One
Railway Union 1 (Kate Lloyd) Loreto 0
Kate Lloyd’s second half goal was all that stood between Railway and Loreto in women’s Leinster division one to close the gap to leaders Hermes, leaving the Beaufort side facing an uphill battle to get back in the title race.
Lloyd had scored a key goal in the meeting between the sides in the first half of the season. She raced 60 metres to get on the end of Cecelia Joyce’s pass and slot home. It came from a very fast counter-attack with Isobel Joyce winning possession in her own 25 with a great tackle.
She picked out her twin sister high up the pitch and she could have shot herself but selflessly laid off to Lloyd to grab the only goal.
It settled a physical battle with plenty of robust tackles thrown in. Railway shaded the first half before Loreto edged proceedings in the early phases of the second half with Ali Meeke and Niamh Small causing mayhem from either flank.
They also had three corners toward the end after Railway had taken the lead but Grace O’Flanagan kept them out to preserve the win.
