Cats and Railway share division two spoils

Eamon Walsh helped secure a point for Kilkenny at Railway Union last Saturday as a couple of back-matches kick-started the second phase of men’s Leinster Division Two.

On day one of the season, the cats had fallen 5-1 to Railway but they have improved markedly since then with the return of a number of established players to move up to fifth place in the division.

They had taken the lead early on via a home side stick and they had chances to move further ahead via Tom Manning, leaving it at 1-0 at the break.

But Railway, fuelled by ex-Kilkenny men Eddie Dore and Peter Yates, swapped the lead with the latter gobbling up the pair to make it 2-1 going down the stretch. Walsh, though, swept home from the flick spot with a couple of minutes remaining to grab the point.

At the top, Monkstown II moved level with Pembroke thanks to a narrow 2-1 win over Clontarf, St Andrew’s schoolboys Rory Nichols and Patrick Temperly’s efforts outdoing Tom Noonan’s goal.

Men’s Leinster Division Two: Railway Union II 2 (P Yates 2) Kilkenny 2 (own goal, E Walsh); Monkstown II 2 (R Nichols, P Temperly) Clontarf 1 (T Noonan)
