Five star High School through to semi-finals
Senior Schoolgirls Premier League round-up
High School secured their place in the semi-finals of the Leinster schoolgirls senior Premier League with a 5-2 victory over Rathdown in their all-or-nothing tie on a dark midweek afternoon with temperatures below freezing.
The second half started just as the other had left off with both teams having close misses. High School then pulled away with three goals in short succession scored by AIlish Long, Lucy Barlow and Racheal Delaney. High School’s final goal came after a run of play down the left side created by Mia Jennings.
Rathdown’s counter attack had been prominent throughout the game and it finally payed off as the ball was flicked into the net as they crept behind the High School defence giving them their second and final goal.
It was not enough to turn the tide and High School advance to the final four from Section B along with St Gerard’s.
In Section A, Sophie Barnwell and Aoife Kelly both scored for Muckross in a 2-0 win over Loreto Dalkey, a result that sees Muckross finish their group phase on 13 points. They must wait now for results from elsewhere to see if it is enough to see them advance to the semi-finals.
