YMCA II broke their scoring duck – dating back to October 11 – to land their first win of men’s Leinster division two since Suttonians withdrew with a resounding 4-0 win over Railway Union II.Their mixture of youth and experience was exemplified on the scoresheet with the vastly experienced duo of Stephen Barry and Will Powderly – both members of all-conquering Newpark’s 1996/97 vintage – on the mark along with Eric Prehn and David Mahwinney, players at the far end of the spectrum.
The win puts them within range of Railway and four clear of Corinthian II who pushed an injur-hit Clontarf all the way but still remain without a win thus far in the campaign.
Scott Furlong doubled his tally for the season in the league with a double to shade Pembroke’s battle with Fingal at ALSAA. For Fingal, who were without David and Eamonn Bane, it was their third loss on the bounce having won their first three games and will hope to get back on track with a date at the airport against YM on Saturday.
Pembroke stay in a share of top spot with Clontarf and Monkstown II. Rory Nichols was the star of the show in Kilkenny for the sky blues with a four-goal salvo in their 7-2 success while Irish Under-16 Guy Sarratt nabbed a pair, too.
