Men’s Leinster Division Two
The two 100pc records in men’s Leinster division two fell last Saturday to bring the title chase right back into the mix with three sides on 12 points and two sides, with games in hand, on nine.
Tom Noonan’s winner, the last goal of 11, saw Clontarf inflict a first defeat of the season on Pembroke in a stunning 6-5 result. The Bulls were 4-1 up at half-time with Kevin Mullins scoring twice while Cain Cooney and John Mullins were also on the mark.
The Serpentine Avenue hosts, though, roared back into contention with three goals in the first ten minutes of the second half to make it 4-4.
Kevin Mullins completed his hat trick only for Pembroke – for whom Patrick Good and Andrew Shekleton both scored twice – to level yet again. But Noonan popped up with the 11th goal of an epic to record his side’s third win of the season.
Three Rock produced their strongest performance to date this term with a fine 3-0 win over Fingal, who previously had three wins from three, at Grange Road with Conor Empey playing the starring role.
The High School student played a composed role in midfield while also chipping in with a couple of goals. Johnny Roberts opened the scoring with an excellent near post deflection into the roof of the net from a right wing cross.
Empey made it 2-0 before the break before completing the win when he rounded on a loose ball in the circle. Rovers had plenty of chances for more while Fingal saw one effort hooked off the line by Stephen Dawson and Eoin Buttanshaw to preserve their clean sheet.
A day later, Luke McSharry and Roberts were on the mark once again in a 2-1 opening round Railway Cup win over Pembroke.
Monkstown continued their good form with another comfortable win, beating YMCA II 6-0. Kilkenny got their first win of the season with the return of Tom Manning a boost. They ran up a half dozen over struggling Corinthian II.
