The Leinster U-16 are in great shape to retain the girls interprovincial title after two strong wins on middle Saturday in Lisnagarvey while their U-18 counterparts face a title showdown with their Ulster hosts on Sunday.
For Sarah Scott’s U-16s, they started off the day in great fashion with a 3-0 win over the South East. Sarah Torrans’ corner strike got them on the board before Jodie Douglas and Claudia Johnston scored in the second half.
After Connacht and Munster shared a scoreless draw, Leinster were back in the mix against Ulster. There, they did the damage in a 2-0 win in the first half.
Hannah McLaughlin gave the young blues a very early lead before skipper Isabelle Delamar struck home a penalty corner. It remained that way until the final whistle in spite of a couple of fine saves from Jade Lamont.
In combination with Friday’s 2-1 win over Connacht, it leaves Leinster with three wins and they sit five points ahead of Munster, their final opponents and only side that can catch Leinster.
At U-18 level, Ulster’s high-scoring ways have them in the box seat with three wins from three, adding to their 2-0 win on Friday with a 4-1 success against Munster with Zoe Wilson nabbing a pair.
A 7-0 win over the South East means they need just a draw when they meet Leinster at 12pm on Sunday. Leinster remain unbeaten after Sally Campbell and Sarah O’Loughlin were on the mark in a 2-0 win over Connacht.
