Women’s Senior International match: Belgium 0 Ireland 1 (C Brown)
Chloe Brown’s first half goal saw Ireland beat Belgium for the second day in succession in Oudergem, this time picking off a 1-0 success. She scored from a flowing move in the tenth minute to net the only goal of the game.
Ireland created several more clear opportunities but coach Darren Smith said afterwards: “It is great to get two wins over Belgium. The girls played some very good hockey and we are now looking to three tough games against Scotland.”
It followed a 2-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon and adds to the team’s list of higher ranked scalps in 2014 having already defeated Spain, Korea and South Africa.
It bodes well for their World League round two early in the New Year when the Olympic qualifying process begins in earnest. The next step in the preparation phase is a three game series against Scotland on home turf in November, playing at the recently relaid astroturf pitch in Grange Road, home of Three Rock Rovers, along with another tie to be played in Milltown.
