Fingal, Pembroke and Railway make it two wins from two

Shane Dempsey appears to be relishing the captain’s role at Fingal as he advanced his total to five goals in two games since the ALSAA men made the decision to drop down to Leinster division two.

Adrian Sweeney also nabbed two in their narrow win over Clontarf, getting a top deflection from a left wing cross before wheeling away to hit home the third deep in the second half to win the game.

It means they have two wins to date in the competition. They are on a break this weekend as they were due to play Monkstown II but their first team’s involvement in the Euro Hockey League in Barcelona has seen this tie postponed.

They are joined at the top by Railway Union II and Pembroke II who both recorded their second wins of the season. For Pembroke II, like last year away at YMCA II, it was a struggle. Last year ended scoreless but they managed to nick a winner in the closing quarter via a scrambled Patrick Good goal.

They missed a stroke, had another given and then over-turned while Cillian Hynes claimed a touch to a crash ball. A corner count of 8-1 was also unconverted as Rob Fitzgerald impressed between the posts.

Railway had a close one against fellow promoted side Corinthian II but kept their 100pc record, John Pearson and Peter Yates getting the goals.

Three Rock and Monkstown bounced back from opening day losses to score big wins. The former beat Kilkenny 5-2 with Jonathan Roberts and elder brother Steven accounting for three of them against a youthful Cats side waiting for a number of players to come back into the fold.

Brian Gray is studying in Limerick while Tom Manning is on hurling duty with Derek O’Gorman and Lloyd Pearson also potentially on the way back. Suttonians, meanwhile, struggled at Monkstown II with Gavin Browne and Shane O’Halloran scoring a pair each in a 9-1 win.

Pembroke II and Railway will be looking to move to the top of the table at the end of the coming weekend in Fingal’s absence. Pembroke travel out to Suttonians while Railway travel up the Dart line to the bullring.
