Easy eight for Ireland as France no match once again

Tri Nations Series
Ireland 8 (C Brown 2, K Mullan 2, M Frazer, A Connery, A O’Flynn, N Carroll) France 0

Ireland ran up a 8-0 win over France to inflict a heavy defeat in game two of the four meetings between the sides this week as part of their Tri-Nations series in Belfield.

It was 100pc one-way traffic with France registering just a single circle penetration over the 70-minutes while Ireland’s penalty corner reached as high as 15, converting three, in a dominant display.

The hosts led 5-0 at the break having taken the lead inside four minutes. Megan Frazer thumped it home from the top after she was unchallenged from a free five metres outside the circle. Naomi Carroll cracked home the second from an incisive Gillian Pinder pass while Katie Mullan’s dextrous control and volley yielded a third. Chloe Brown and Audrey O’Flynn added drag-flicks to round out the pre-break scoring.

The second half was similarly one-way traffic with Brown adding her second corner goal, Katie Mullan guiding in from Nikki Evans baseline cross before Aine Connery – as she did in game one – concluded the scoring with a simple close-range touch.

Ireland are back in action on Monday evening at 7pm in Belfield for a much tougher tie against Spain – who shaded Friday’s tie 2-1 – before playing the French again on Wednesday.
