Ireland’s Under-16 girls and boys produced six comprehensive performances to end the weekend with a perfect record from their respective three-game series with Wales.
In UCD, the girls got off to a flying start with Jessica McMaster on the mark early on in the opening tie before Ellen Curran set up the first of Hannah Irwin’s two second half goals. Irwin’s second made it 3-0 before Abbie Russell produced a lovely baseline run to play in Miah Phelan to complete a 4-0 success.
The goals continued to flow on Saturday with Ireland notching up a 7-1 victory. Erin Getty got the first two goals on her 16th birthday before Katie McKee and McMaster extended the lead out to 4-0 in the 28th minute; the fourth was an absolute peach, a diving reverse-stick volley.
Lauren Dunne pulled one back for Wales but Jayne Kilpatrick, Rosie Henderson and Rachel Burns closed out that win. And they closed out their weekend with a 10-1 victory on Sunday morning. Erin Getty struck a first half hat trick while Russell ended up with four goals, three of them coming early in the second half.
On the boys side in Wrexham, Guy Sarratt’s double helped Ireland to a 4-1 win on Friday and the St Andrew’s man produced another pair in their 7-0 Saturday win. Ricky Lee’s side repeated the feat on Sunday with another 7-0 success with five different goalscorers, completing a fine weekend’s work.
